Fire Ban, 8 x 10", Oil on Artist Board, 2013. The summer of 2011 was hot and dry in Texas. Our family went camping over spring break to Possum Kingdom campgrounds around Denton, TX and all wood fires were banned because we had months and months of little to no rain. This was disappointing since the temperature dropped into the 40’s at night. This little plein air painting illustrates the conditions all around and shows why the park rangers were so vigilant in stopping by if they saw smoke coming from a campsite. Imagine what would happen if a stray spark lighted on these grasses. However, the grasses and colors were lovely and made a peaceful rushing sound as they swayed in the breeze. Available
