Paper Fan, 30 x 15", Oil on Linen, 2013. This piece is inspired by the painting "Mother and Child" by William Merritt Chase. I saw the painting at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and was inspired by the strength that can be achieved with a simple color pallet and composition. I chose Tesa as the model for her ivory skin, dark hair and stamina as a model. The symmetrical composition is enhanced by two overlapping triangular patterns made by the flesh tones in the face, hand and toe and then again in reverse by the red elements of the collar, hair sticks and cuff. The kimono was a great find. I ordered it online. It is a hand sewn vintage kimono. It is a work of art itself. Available
