Red Mirage, 24" x 24", Oil on Acrylic on Primed Masonite, 2011. The painting began its life as an abstract that I painted while living in the heat of the Middle East. It was an abstract landscape titled "Red Mirage." The name stuck, but not the initial concept. I decided that I wasn’t in the abstract business and began lugging the painting to my portrait groups until I found the appropriate subject. The subject turned out to be Patricia. The red on red was a nice solution for letting the red of the abstract show through. I also let my loose painting style get even looser, to keep the piece contemporary. The base abstract was painted in acrylic and the figure was painted in oil. This piece was juried into the prestigious "Hunting Prize." I didn’t win the top prize, but the Hunting Prize Gala was terrific! Available
