Tether, 12x16", oil on linen panel, 2015. I started this painting en Plein Air in Galveston, Texas and finished in my studio. Painting outside has a whole unique set of challenges, changing light, changing temperature and weather conditions and, in this case, a boat that pivoted on its tether. I was able to get the color notes and drawing down before moving on to a new location. With those things in place plus a series of photographs, I was able to complete the painting while maintaining the colors and value shifts that typically get lost when working exclusively from photographs.
