This image is from a series of plein air paintings done on a trip to Laguna Beach, California. The distinctive coastline and surrounding landscape of Laguna Beach has been an inspiration to artists for years, most notably in the work of William Wendt, an influential, American Impressionistic painter in the early 1900’s.
This scene was my last of the day and one that I painted quickly as the sun was beginning to set. The light made for deep colors. Crashing waves foamed and glowed in the rays of the setting sun.
