20 x 16", oil on linen. 2013. Sold

The model for this painting is Charlie, a Native American with Hispanic heritage. Charlie, with his uniquely androgynous aspect, was my primary inspiration for this painting. Equally inspiring was the Karate jacket, a piece of artwork in itself.

It belongs to my friend and fellow artist Krystal Brown. Her father, Scott M. Brown, brought this hand embroidered, satin, Karate jacket back from Japan were he served as an ensign in the Navy during the last two years of WWII.

I used a green underpainting and background as a compliment to the red dragon in his Karate robe. The green underpainting also served as a base for his warm olive skin tone. I executed this painting over a few twenty-minute poses with the model then finished it up in my studio.

This painting was included in the June 2013, BoldBrush Painting Competition, FAVE 15%. This painting was also accepted into the American Women Artists 16th Annual Juried Competition, 2013.
