16 x 20", oil on canvas, 2008. Sold.
For two years, I lived in the Middle East--in Saar, Bahrain. We arrived in August and the landscape was broiling so I spent a good bit of time in my studio painting produce I found at a vegetable market near my home.
On one trip I found these mystery items. Intrigued by their color, I scooped up several dozen. I don’t speak Arabic so I couldn’t ask what they were. After much online research I think they are almonds in their hull. If the photos I found online are any indication, their unique coloring apparently isn’t customary in all varieties.
